White Supremacy

When Christian settlers arrived in America, few had moral reservations against the use of slavery for black-skinned people from Africa. Even today many people with the strongest Christian faith also believe in promoting White Supremacy and prefer non-whites be subjected to a lower status in our society. What should we think of this strong correlation between belief in a Christian God and White Supremacy? Why are the two so strongly entwined?

Indulgences

In the middle ages, the Catholic Pope, bishops, and clergy sold indulgences, allowing people to be absolved of their sins by doing favors for the church or the priests. This practiced has been condemned, but was once considered “right” and moral by Christianity. How can Christians know today if all their beliefs and practices are “right” and moral?

Christian vs Secular Countries

Countries with a lot of Christians such as the United States do not score better on health and wellness metrics than more secular countries, notably the Scandanavian countries and Australia. In the United States, the states with the most religious people do not score better on social welfare measures than the more secular states. If Christianity led to better lives, shouldn’t there be a noticeable effect in the states and countries that are more Christian?

Cain, son of Adam and Eve

Who did Cain marry? If Adam and Eve were the first two people, and their first two children where Cain and Abel, and Cain went to the land of Nod to marry a woman, who did he marry?

How should every person live?

In several verses, Matthew 19:21 and Luke 12:33 Jesus tells us to give away all our wealth and to preach in his name, yet very few Christians follow this clear guidance. Why?

The end of the world is nigh

Matthew 24:34-36 The Bible says that the Jesus will return before the current generation of people living has passed away. Yet, this has not happened in nearly 2,000 years. Of course, many people correctly interpret this passage to mean that the end of times will be coming any day now. But many people have been interpreting it that way for millenia. Unfortunately, this phrase does much harm to people and the world. It causes many people to forgo planning for the future, and to ignore problems growing in the world due to global warming and overpopulation. Believers of this passage feel there is no need to plan for an earthly future, nor worry about the consequences their actions today have on future residents of Earth.

A Loving God

How can we call the Christian God a Loving God after he created all the people on Earth then drowned them all in the great flood? He created them all knowing he would kill them. How can we call God a Loving God when he tortures people in hell for eternity just because they fail to worship him. How can we call God a Loving God when he gives painful brain cancer to infants?

Praise God

Why do people praise God for surviving the storm, but not also blame him for sending the storm. Everything happens according to God’s will. God sent the tornado that killed hundreds but spared some.

Why Call Him God?

Is God willing to prevent evil but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then where does evil come from? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? Epicurus

God’s Will

All people must do according to God’s will. Therefore we can’t criticize a person for doing bad things, but all that is done is according to God’s will. If all is according to God’s will, doesn’t that mean we should just happily accept everything as it is?
